Fallon Health announces 9th Annual Canal Diggers Road Race

Road race to celebrate Worcester’s historic Canal District

Worcester, Mass., September 1, 2015―Fallon Health, a not-for-profit health care services organization, today announced its sponsorship of the Ninth Annual Fallon Health Canal Diggers 5Km Road Race on Saturday, September 12 at 11 a.m. The road race name highlights the great contributions that early Irish immigrants made toward the creation of the Blackstone Canal and Worcester’s famous landmarks along the race route.

The race is open to all runners, joggers and walkers with the start and finish line located at the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Centre, 19 Temple St., Worcester. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Foundation. A post-race Irish BBQ, Harpoon beer courtesy of Harpoon Brewery and live music follows.

“Fallon Health fulfills its mission of making our communities healthy in many ways. One way is by promoting healthy lifestyles through sponsoring community events that encourage people to get out and move,” said Patrick Hughes, President and CEO of Fallon Health. “Fallon is pleased to once again support one of central Massachusetts’ top races. We’re looking forward to welcoming hundreds of walkers and runners to our great city.”

“Since 2007, the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Foundation has brought the community together at the Canal Diggers Road Race,” said Paul Foley, Road Race Chairman, Worcester Hibernian Cultural Foundation. “We’re grateful to Fallon Health and Harpoon Brewery for ensuring that we continue a fall tradition that so many look forward to.”

This year’s race also coincides with the Blackstone Canalfest, a classic street festival complete with food, music, entertainment, giant raffle, artists, horse and wagon tours, kayak rides, street performers, fun kids’ activities and more.
