Fallon Community Health Plan achieves national top rankings

FCHP is again ranked the number one Medicaid health plan in America.

Worcester, Mass., September 19, 2013 ― Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP), a nationally-recognized, not-for-profit health care services organization, today announced that it is the highest-ranked Medicaid health plan in America. This is the sixth time in the last seven years that FCHP achieved this honor. Additionally, FCHP was ranked as the number two Medicare health plan in Massachusetts (and the 15th highest-ranked Medicare health plan in the country). The rankings are according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2013 – 14.

“We’re proud of our performance in the NCQA rankings and what the high standards we’ve achieved means for our members: patient-centric, quality-based, affordable health care,” said Patrick Hughes, FCHP President and CEO.

FCHP’s Medicaid HMO was ranked the number one Medicaid health plan in America out of 131 plans that were ranked. FCHP’s Medicare HMO was ranked 15th out of 405 Medicare plans in America, and ranked as the number two Medicare plan in the state of Massachusetts. On the Private plan rankings, FCHP’s commercial HMO/POS was ranked number 34 out 484 plans. The NCQA’s Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2013-14 list is derived from publicly reported data used to compare and rank health plans across the country based on a variety of quality and customer satisfaction measures. Access to care, treatment of certain diseases and prevention efforts are among the measures used to determine the rankings.

Additionally, FCHP has consistently maintained “Excellent” Accreditation status for its Private, Medicaid and Medicare Advantage products, and is the only Massachusetts health plan to be accredited across all three product lines. “Excellent” Accreditation is the NCQA’s highest possible status and is reserved for the best health plans in the nation.

“FCHP continues to partner with patients and providers to find innovative ways to improve care, strengthen our services and keep costs in check,” said Sarika Aggarwal, M.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. “For example, FCHP’s health and wellness programs, such as our smoking cessation program, Quit to Win, are preventive measures that go a long way in improving health care outcomes. Our It Fits! program remains one of the most robust and comprehensive health rewards programs offered by any Massachusetts health plan. Programs like this and others bring real results in improving health and health care in the Commonwealth.”

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations. It also recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance. NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is the most widely used performance measure tool in health care.
