Fallon Community Health Plan supports American Red Cross efforts in tornado-stricken areas of Massachusetts
Nationally recognized health plan donates $10,000 to aid relief efforts
Worcester, Mass., June 7, 2011—Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP) today announced its $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support the relief and recovery efforts in Western and Central Massachusetts, areas of the Commonwealth that were most significantly impacted by last week’s tornadoes.
“In the aftermath of last week’s deadly tornadoes, Massachusetts families, businesses and communities are faced with the overwhelming challenge of restoration and recovery. Our thoughts and concerns are with all residents impacted by these devastating storms,” said W. Patrick Hughes, FCHP President and CEO. “As a mission-driven company, we know that with challenge comes an opportunity to help, which is why we are supporting the efforts of the Red Cross to help our Western and Central Massachusetts neighbors, colleagues, friends and customers.”
Congressman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) commended Fallon Community Health Plan for being one of the first businesses to contact his office and offer assistance.
“I applaud Fallon Community Health Plan for responding swiftly and compassionately to the needs of our communities,” said Congressman Neal. “The families and businesses devastated by these tornadoes face many challenges. The generous support provided by FCHP will help strengthen their recovery.”
FCHP also has been using its Facebook page and Twitter account to refer fans and followers to the Red Cross, and encourage them to help in any way they can.
The following information is provided for those interested in also supporting the efforts of the Red Cross:
To make a monetary donation:
- Online at www.redcross.org
- By phone at 1-800-RED-CROSS
- By mail to the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts, 2000 Century Drive, Worcester, MA 01606
- By texting “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation; donations will be added to your mobile phone bill or deducted from your prepaid account
To donate clothing or household goods:
- The American Red Cross does not accept or solicit small, individual donations or collections of items for emergency relief purposes. Small items such as collections of food, used clothing, and shoes often must be cleaned, sorted, and repackaged which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel that are needed for other aspects of our relief operation. The Red Cross, in partnership with other agencies, suggests that the best use for those types of donations is to support needy agencies within donors' local communities.
To volunteer:
- The Red Cross is accepting a limited number of “spontaneous” volunteers—that is people who are not already registered or trained as Red Cross volunteers. Interested candidates MUST go to their local Red Cross chapter in person to fill out an application. They must bring a photo ID. The Red Cross will take your information and contact you once they are able to facilitate trainings for new volunteers.
