Pat Hughes is President and CEO of Fallon Community Health Plan.

Hughes joined FCHP in 2007 as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, responsible for implementing and executing FCHP’s marketing and sales strategy in New England. That same year, he assumed extensive responsibility for all health plan operations in the new role of Division President. Steering the company in its goal of net new profitable growth, he provided strong leadership for FCHP’s sales, service and advocacy initiatives. Under Hughes’ leadership, membership grew to its highest level in the company’s history.

A 10-year veteran of the National Football League, Hughes continues to foster a deep appreciation and respect for teamwork. He also credits his experience as a linebacker with the New York Giants (1970-1976) and the New Orleans Saints (1977-1979) for helping him to develop a keen ability to quickly identify and respond to challenges and opportunities in his present-day field of play: today’s dynamic health care market and environment.

Before joining FCHP, Hughes served as President and CEO of Hughes and Company, a successful consulting and brokerage firm he founded in New Hampshire. Prior to owning his own business, Hughes was Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Product Development for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, which achieved unprecedented growth and profitability under his leadership. Previously, he served as the President of Employee Benefit Plan Administration, the largest third-party administrator (TPA) in New England.

Currently, Hughes is the Chairman of the board of directors of UltraBenefits, Inc., and also of Home Staff LLC. He is Vice Chairman of the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans in Boston, Mass., and is on the board of directors of the Alliance of Community Health Plans in Washington, D.C., the New England Council, and the Worcester Research Bureau.

Hughes holds a bachelor of science degree from Boston University, and is a member of the university’s Scarlet Key Society and the B.U. Athletic Hall of Fame.
