What are routine eye exams?

Routine eye exams may include tests, examinations or dilation to:

  • See the inside, outside and surrounding areas of your eyes
  • Measure the pressure of your eyes
  • Evaluate how well you see objects—up close and at a distance
  • Determine if you need a prescription for glasses or contact lenses
  • Detect diseases or conditions

Routine eye exams are usually provided by an optometrist, a licensed professional who performs examinations and screenings to diagnose and treat conditions and diseases of the eye. They also prescribe medicines and eyewear.

Specialty vision care

As a Fallon member, you’re also covered for specialty eye care to treat an eye condition or injury. Your plan may require a referral or preauthorization, so be sure to check with us before scheduling an appointment with a vision care specialist.

Specialty vision care is usually provided by an opthalmologist, a medical doctor who specializes in eye surgery and who can also perform eye exams, diagnose eye diseases and disorders, and write prescriptions.
