Fallon Health announces the opening of its state-of-the-art Summit ElderCare® location in Worcester

Worcester, Mass., October 18, 2019 ―Community leaders, older adults and family caregivers joined Fallon Health Friday morning to open the health care services organization’s newest Summit ElderCare® location in Worcester. The state-of-the-art center is replacing the original site on East Mountain Street, which opened nearly 25 years ago.

“While the needs of our participants and caregivers have evolved since Fallon Health opened our first Summit ElderCare location on East Mountain Street in Worcester back in 1995, our commitment to helping older adults continue living independently has not,” said Fallon Health President and CEO Richard Burke. “This new facility will allow us to address the medical and social needs of even more people in a way that supports their health and well-being.”

Summit ElderCare is Fallon Health’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), a joint Medicare and Medicaid program that helps people remain living in their community instead of a nursing home or other long-term care facility. Now in its 24th year of offering PACE, Fallon is the longest-serving and largest PACE provider in New England and among the largest in the country, according to the National PACE Association. Fallon serves over 1,200 PACE participants with facilities located in Leominster, Lowell, Springfield, Webster, two locations in Worcester and one in western New York.

The new 15,500-square-foot Summit facility on Grove Street will offer all-inclusive, coordinated and patient-centered health care and related support services to individuals age 55 and older who need assistance and qualify for nursing home care but wish to remain living independently in the community. Upgrades and modern amenities include:

  • Larger day rooms used for meals and socializing
  • Additional space for rehab and activities including a much larger library, five computers, a salon and two quiet rooms where participants can de-stress
  • Heated sidewalks to help with safety in the winter
  • Dedicated parking spaces making the PACE Center more accessible to participants, caregivers and visitors
  • Increased outdoor patio space with shelter from the weather

“It is an honor to provide care and support to older adults and their caregivers,” said Kristine Bostek, Vice President of Summit ElderCare. “Fallon is committed to a compassionate approach of care for older adults and their loved ones. We’re excited to be part of this new chapter and we invite the community to visit the new location.”

The stretch of Grove Street where the building— which includes Fallon’s Summit ElderCare — now stands, has been undergoing a transformation, adding new retail and office development including the 55,000-square-foot Trolley Yard project. Given its roots in the city, Fallon saw the area as an ideal location for its newest site and worked with a local developer Tim Rassias, Principal of 288 Grove Street LLC, to turn the former manufacturing facility back into a vital resource for the community.

“The City of Worcester is proud to have Fallon Health as a partner,” said Worcester Mayor Joe Petty. “This project shows Fallon’s investment in the city of Worcester and its people. I applaud them for taking on such an important initiative and contributing to the area as it grows into a commercial hub.”
