National accreditation and Quality Plus distinction
FCHP maintains "Excellent" accreditation status for our commercial, Medicaid and Medicare Advantage products from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA,) an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to measuring the quality of America’s health care. "Excellent" accreditation is the NCQA's highest possible status and is reserved for the best health plans in the nation. FCHP is the only Massachusetts health plan to be accredited across all three product lines.
To earn NCQA accreditation, a health plan must report on member satisfaction, quality of care, access, confidentiality, and service against NCQA’s rigorous standards. NCQA’s ratings are based on accreditation surveys conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. This reporting program, the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set, or HEDIS®*, gathers information from more than 90 percent of health plans across the nation, and is considered the most complete health care quality report available.
Fallon Community Health Plan performed above NCQA’s national 90th percentile in the following measures for 2007:
- Adolescent Immunizations
- Beta Blocker treatment after a heart attack
- Childhood Immunizations
- Follow-up after hospitalization for selected mental illness
- Breast cancer screening
- Advising smokers to quit
- Cervical cancer screening
- Appropriate treatment for children with upper respiratory infections
- Prenatal care

Quality Plus distinction
FCHP has achieved Quality Plus Distinction for Physician and Hospital Quality from the National Committee for Quality Assurance—an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to measuring the quality of America’s health care. NCQA-accredited health plans can opt to achieve distinction in “Quality Plus” content areas in addition to their accreditation.
“By adopting these Quality Plus standards,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane, “FCHP is providing members with important information about physicians and hospitals within their network, allowing them to make better health care decisions for themselves and their families.”
One way that FCHP provides quality information is the Compare Hospitals Tool. This tool allows you to do a side-by-side comparison of hospital quality and cost for more than 150 procedures at 100+ hospitals. We also provide links to several other public sites that offer hospital quality data, and provide quality information about physicians as a participant in the Massachusetts Health Quality Partners project.
