Fallon Community Health Plan appoints Lynda M. Young, M.D., to board of directors
Worcester, Mass., April 24, 2009―Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP) announces the appointment of Lynda M. Young, M.D., to the Fallon Community Health Plan board of directors.
Dr. Young has served on the FCHP Service and Quality Oversight Committee since 2004, and has also served on other committees within the health plan since 1994. She has been an active member in several medical organizations, and was the first woman president of the Worcester District Medical Society. She also serves on the boards of several community organizations, including UMass Memorial Health Care and the Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts. In addition, Dr. Young is an alternate trustee of the board of directors of the Massachusetts Medical Society and an alternate delegate to the American Medical Association.
For the past 32 years, in addition to practicing primary care pediatrics, Dr. Young has taught college students, medical students, and pediatric and family practice residents at her practice, Chandler Pediatrics. She is a professor of clinical pediatrics, and chief of the Division of Community Pediatrics at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Because of her commitment to and experience in teaching, she was an invited speaker for the National Pediatric Faculty Development Scholars Program with the Ambulatory Pediatric Association in 1999 through 2001. In 2004, Dr. Young received the National Teaching Award from the Ambulatory Pediatric Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She has received many awards locally for her mentoring and volunteering activities from Notre Dame Academy, Pernet Family Health Service, Girl Scouts of America, City of Worcester and the YWCA.
A graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, Dr. Young completed her pediatric residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Young resides in Worcester with her husband, Robert Sorrenti, M.D., also a pediatrician. They have two sons, Michael and John.
