Fallon Community Health Plan awards $15,000 to the Multi-Service Center

Grant money to support education program for at-risk youth

Worcester, Mass., November 28, 2007—Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP) will award $15,000 to the Multi-Service Center in Leominster through its Community Benefits Grant program. This funding will support Project Youth, a program that provides youth who have not obtained a high school diploma, with personalized education counseling, GED assistance and pre-employment training.

“The Multi-Service Center has been providing educational support services to at-risk youth since 1985,” said Barbara Abraham, Executive Director, Multi-Service Center. “Those youth who successfully complete the Project Youth program are able to develop strong self-confidence in their own abilities, as well as to become stronger contributors to their community.”

With the grant, the center is able to create a full-time, permanent staff person to support Project Youth, and to provide the program with a higher level of continuity, increased collaborations and expanded outreach.

“Project Youth complements other community efforts by working collaboratively with the efforts of the public schools, social service agencies and other GED-type providers,” added Abraham. “Since all of our services are provided free-of-charge, we work collaboratively with local school districts, families, the court system
and social service agencies to refer eligible youth to our program, and ultimately, get them back into the education system.”

Every year, Fallon Community Health Plan seeks grant applications from non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of youth in communities throughout Massachusetts.

“Education is so important to one’s future success, and we’re proud to support the Multi-Service Center and its dedication to helping at-risk youth obtain their high school diploma and pursue a career or even a college education,” said Eric H. Schultz, President and CEO, Fallon Community Health Plan.
