Fallon Community Health Plan set to support local hunger relief programs
Worcester, Mass., July 26, 2007―Fallon Community Health Plan announced it has designated food pantries and hunger relief programs throughout the FCHP service area as beneficiaries of the 2007 Golf FORE a Goal tournament. The tournament, to be held at the Worcester Country Club on Monday, September 24, is dedicated to making a positive impact by helping families and individuals in crisis to get the food they need. This year’s featured guest is longtime Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan.
All of the net proceeds from Fallon Community Health Plan’s second annual Golf FORE a Goal tournament will be given to regional food banks and food distribution agencies throughout Massachusetts whose volunteers and employees work tirelessly to provide food and nutritional support to hungry people who need their help.
“These agencies provide critical support to those individuals and families who have to make difficult choices between having enough to eat and paying for heat, shelter or other necessities,” said Kate McEvoy-Zdonczyk, Director of Community Relations and Development, FCHP. “This year, we choose to support these organizations in an effort to help them continue to bring food and hope to deserving people and their families.”
The inaugural tournament, held in September 2006, awarded more than $115,000 to area Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Massachusetts. With these grants, the clubs were able to expand upon existing programs that continue to promote important developmental milestones of boys and girls throughout their childhood and into their adolescence.
Clubs that received allocations from the 2006 tournament proceeds include:
- Boys & Girls Club of Worcester – $25,000
- Boys & Girls of Greater Salem – $12,500
- Springfield Boys & Girls Club – $10,000
- Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke – $7,550
