Prenatal care
Here are some tips on how to give your baby a healthy start, including how we can help you quit smoking.
Help your baby get a healthy start
These next few months are a crucial time in your baby's life.
- What you choose to eat and drink will have an impact on your baby's growth and development—so choose wisely!
- Visit your doctor or midwife as soon as possible. He or she can talk to you about the importance of prenatal care, whether you need to make any modifications to your diet or exercise routine, and what type of prenatal vitamins you should take. (Did you know that participants in our Oh Baby! program can get free prenatal vitamins?)
Smoking and pregnancy
If you're a smoker, you now have even more incentive to quit! Smoking during pregnancy can increase the risk of stillbirths; low birth weight (which increases a baby's risk for health problems); premature birth; and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). We know it's a tough habit to break, which is why FCHP has resources to help you quit.
