What is a formulary?
A formulary is a listing of drugs, classified by therapeutic category or disease class that are considered preferred therapy for a given population. These are the drugs to be used by our providers in prescribing medications. The online drug formulary, which includes both brand-name drugs and generic drugs, lists prescription medications covered by Fallon Community Health Plan.
Categories of drugs in our formulary
Generic drugs have the same active-ingredient formulary as a brand name drug. Generic drugs usually cost less than brand name drugs and are rated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be as safe and effective as the brand name drugs.
Self-injectable medications used in the home setting are included in these formularies. Injections given by health care professionals in a health care setting are not. The Fallon Senior Plan formulary does not include durable medical equipment that is needed for use of medication.
